Meet Vigdis

Vigdis grew up experiencing severe psychological, emotional, physical, and sexual abuse. Her childhood left her struggling with severe depression, anxiety, eating disorders, workaholism, and a deep sense of self-hatred. For ten years, she didn't wear glasses or contact lenses because she believed she deserved the punishment of not being able to see. She spent most of her adult life healing, determined to create a different life. For her it was either healing or to leave.

When she became pregnant, that determination took on an entirely new meaning. She wanted to give her son the childhood she never had. She became devoted to understanding how we, as a species, were naturally designed to raise children in a way that allows both parents and children to genuinely thrive. She immersed herself in studying child development, attachment theory, trauma-informed parenting, the emotional needs behind children's behavior, and how some of the more harmonious societies on the planet raise their children, while continuing to heal her own childhood wounds. Along the way, she discovered that what we believe to be our parenting instincts can sometimes be childhood conditioning in disguise. As she healed, she became increasingly able to distinguish between the two and reconnect with her natural motherly instincts.

But motherhood was far from easy. There were periods when her depression was so severe that the only thing that got her out of bed was knowing her son's diaper needed changing. Yet even in her darkest moments she never gave up on her belief that there must be a way where parenthood could be genuinely enjoyable, and that raising an emotionally secure, harmonious and thriving child shouldn’t require a parent to sacrifice their own well-being. Through years of healing, studying, and applying what she learned, she discovered that it was possible. Today, she and her son share an incredibly harmonious, loving relationship that feels effortless. The best way to describe her son is that he is "whole" in himself. He is harmonious, secure and at peace on the inside. When he's dysregulated, regulating him is a quick and easy job. He expresses himself freely, sometimes bursting into song simply because he's happy. Strangers frequently comment on how secure and harmonious he seems. Vigdis also discovered that she didn't need to be fully healed to give her son a different childhood. She could meet his emotional needs while still working through her own trauma, and as she continued healing, he healed with her too.

Today, Vigdis is a certified coach for parents and professionals in schools and kindergartens. Through GIFT Parenting, she combines professional training, years of independent study, and her personal transformation to help families experience profound changes. She has witnessed children struggling with severe emotional dysregulation, trauma and challenging behaviors completely transform and become harmonious, empathetic, trusting, and naturally cooperative with the methods that she teaches. Her mission is to help parents raise harmonious, emotionally secure, confident children with a deep sense of worthiness and belonging, while experiencing greater fulfilment, ease, and genuine joy themselves in their role as a parent.

After everything Vigdis has been through, helping reduce suffering in children and parents have become her life's mission.
